200-plus search New Jersey woods for missing woman with dementia
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - Scores of people have been spending the weekend searching the woods in New Jersey for a woman with dementia missing for a week and a half.
Kathleen Elkow, 85, went missing after going for a stroll in the woods 10 days ago.
On Saturday and Sunday, more than 200 volunteers searched a campground around Elkow's Mays Landing home and miles of dense woods dotted with waterways in the area.
Dozens canvassed on foot while others used horses and all-terrain vehicles. In addition, a licensed drone flyer scanned 1,000 acres of forest from the sky.
Elkow's daughter said her mother has lived in Mays Landing for about 25 years and is well acquainted with the trails.
