91-year-old woman serves as flower girl in great-nephew's wedding
SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Every wedding needs a flower girl - but what about a grown woman? "Tina, the queen of flowers" from South Philly was 91-years-old when she walked down the aisle.
Gaetana Ramagnano, also known as Tina, is still beaming over the July wedding. At 91- years-old she was asked to be the flower girl in her great-nephew's wedding.
"I was delighted. I was absolutely so excited about the whole thing," says Tina. "I thought they made a mistake. I thought they meant me to be a maid of honor. And I said, 'You mean maid of honor.' And Lumina said, 'No, no we want you to be the queen of flowers.'"
As the "queen of flowers," Tina bought herself a pretty pink floral dress and hat and handed out silk rose buds to the attendees. "Coming down and everyone says, 'it's Aunt Tina!' You heard this big loud whisper in the whole audience!" The wedding photos are now back and thanks to the Internet, family members are reliving the excitement of Tina's role.
Tina loved the wedding but most of all, this 91-year-old widow loved the idea of being asked to be part of someone's special day. "I was thrilled. I thought whoever heard of that? And I thought it was funny and I just kept telling everybody that I should be in the Guinness book as the oldest flower girl in history!"
