CHOP: Patient information accessed in email data breach

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) informed patients and guardians of patients about two recent data breaches on Tuesday.

The breaches occurred on Aug. 23 and Aug. 29 when an unauthorized user gained access to a physician's email account.

The hospital says some patient information may have been compromised, including patients' names, dates of birth and clinical information. Officials say the incidents affected a limited number of patients and did not include the Social Security numbers or financial information.

Officials urge families to carefully review statements from their health care providers. If they see services that were not received, they should contact their health care provider immediately.

CHOP has established a dedicated call center for patients with questions at 1-800-643-9180.
