Community rallies behind basketball player with Down syndrome

A high school basketball player with Down syndrome thrills the court with a slam dunk shot.

Fifteen-year-old Michael Menges plays on his school team in Tacoma, Washington.

The teenager is a student at Evergreen Lutheran.

His coaches wanted to make sure Michael got enough playing time -- because he has never scored a basket.

Just before the end of the game, he got his chance.

Players on both teams passed him the ball until he scored.

His father says it as an exciting moment for everyone.

"Just real proud of him and just real thankful for the attitude of the players and the coaches and everyone that gave him the chance to do that," Michael's dad, John Menges, said.

The team held their end of year awards ceremony after the game.

For Michael, the prize was making that magic shot.
