Deputy Jumps Onto Runaway Tractor Trailer After Driver Passes Out

NORFOLK, NE- A Nebraska sheriff's deputy is being hailed a hero after jumping onto a runway semi-trailer to save a driver who had passed out at the wheel.

Deputies were responding to a 911 call about a reckless semi on U.S. highway 81 in Madison County.

They caught up with the truck, but it wouldn't stop.

The truck began to slow, allowing deputy Todd Volk to leap into action.

He jumped from his police cruiser onto the highway and then into the truck's cab, where he was able to stop the big rig.

Authorities say the vehicle was close to a busy bridge at the time.

The truck driver appeared to be suffering from a medical condition and officials said it may have been a diabetic reaction.
