East Lansdowne robbery nets suspects $50,000 and nicknames from police
East Lansdowne, Pa. (WTXF) - Police are investigating a robbery at a checking cashing store in East Lansdowne.
Nicknamed 'Sticky Fingers' and the 'Boy in the Bubble', police say the suspects pulled off a daring early morning armed robbery at a corner check cashing store that netted them at least $50,000 in cash.
The teenage armed bandits were caught on surveillance cameras as they walked in the Baltimore Pike check cashing store last Friday around 8 a.m., just as the store opened. They pulled out guns and announced a robbery. One guarded the front self-locking doors while the other headed straight for the safe in the back.
"The older one--clearly the leader--went into the safe, confronted the cashier and the owner, removed about $50,000 in cash," Sgt. James Cadden told FOX 29 Wednesday night
The store cashier and the owner complied as the one robber cleaned out the safe, dropping the money several times as he tried to escape. That led police to nickname him 'Sticky Fingers'.
"Most businesses around here, at least the manager, possibly others are armed, so I think these two men a very lucky," Sgt. Cadden added.
The two suspects ran out and headed down Beverly Avenue. Police have shown the video tape across the town trying to identify the young thieves. Despite some distinctive clothing and footwear, police are now hoping the public can give them a tip leading to arrests.
"They've had a taste and I'm concerned they might want to try it again," Sgt Cadden said.
This is the third time that check cashing store has been robbed. Police say the suspects hit the place just as the safe was loaded with money for the normally busy Friday and Saturday shifts. Police consider the suspects between the ages of 16-20 armed and dangerous.
