Family of 5, including 3 children, killed in late-night Halloween fire in Paterson NJ

A family of five, including two adults and three children, were killed in a house fire late Friday night in Paterson, New Jersey, according to a neighbor who spoke with FOX 5 NY.

What we know:

According to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Paterson Police and Paterson Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire at 15 Emerson Avenue around 9:50 p.m. on October 31.

Firefighters worked to stabilize the structure, but once inside, they discovered five victims:

  • A 39-year-old man
  • A 38-year-old woman
  • A 14-year-old child
  • A 12-year-old child
  • A 7-year-old child

All were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The Paterson Fire Department and Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the cause of the blaze. Officials have not released any information yet about what may have sparked the fire.

The fire was fast-moving, according to early reports, with heavy flames and entrapment on the second floor when first responders arrived.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities said more details will be released once available.
