Family pleads for answers 9 years after murder

All he wanted was help starting his car and now nine years later authorities are still searching for the people that killed him. Police say in September of 2008, 24-year-old Matt Novak got into a car with some strangers expecting them to help him with his car trouble, but instead they shot him and left him to die.

Matt Novak Sr. is still looking for the three men wanted in the September 2008 murder of his son Matt Jr.
He's encouraged by a new angle he says police are now working.

"We're trying to keep the whole investigation alive. We're trying to keep the public informed," he told FOX 29.
That involves this new billboard seen along I-676 in Camden and in other parts of our area. The reward has increased to $45,000 for information leading to Matt's killer.

"It does get stagnant. There really hasn't been a whole lot of movement. It's frustrating as heck," Matt explained.

Police say 24-year-old Matt Novak had just left the Puerto Rican Day parade when a friend's car broke down. Investigators released surveillance video and say Matt called over a Blue Chevy Impala with NJ tags. He got in joining three men inside. When he got out police say he was shot and died hours later.

Cops have yet to find those three men.

"It's been a personal and professional rollercoaster of all sorts of emotions."

Matt's godfather, who is also a detective in Gloucester Township, New Jersey, says someone definitely talked to somebody by now.

"It's been 9 years. You gotta get that guilt off your chest and make that phone call to the anonymous tip line," he said.

"Just please come forward. I mean put yourself in my shoes if this were to happen to you or one of your loved ones. You would want someone to step forward," his dad said.
