Glendale couple to celebrate 80th wedding anniversary Friday

GLENDALE, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- A Glendale couple will soon celebrate a milestone few other couples can claim they have celebrated.

Family members of Charlie and Emily Cox say the couple will celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary on Friday, March 22. The day has another special meaning for Emily, who will also celebrate her 98th birthday.

Charlie, according to family members, is 100.5 years old. He once worked on the Titan missiles, and has been retired now for just over half a century. The couple has a son and daughter, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Family members say Charlie and Emily, who live in a retirement community, will have a small celebration to mark the big day.

While there are no available Census data on how many couples reach their 80th wedding anniversary, it did note that for 60.1% of men and 49.7% of women who got married from 1960 to 1964 celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
