Gun shop raffling off a rifle with proceeds going to two firefighters both struggling with cancer
AVONDALE, AZ - A gun shop in Arizona is raffling off a rifle with proceeds going to two brave firefighters who are both struggling with cancer.
"Mentally it's been hard physically it's been hard but you have to stay positive and keep moving forward."
Gilbert Aguirre was diagnosed with leukemia last year.
Although his prognosis is good, he continues to struggle financially.
At the same time, his coworker at the Goodyear Fire Department -- Austin Peck -- is battling a rare form of cancer.
"He also got diagnosed with cancer his family is going through a lot of struggles right now as well the only place he can get treatment is in San Diego," Aguirre said.
This high power semi-automatic rifle won't cure their cancers.
But it could help them out in a big way.
A-Z-Firearms in Avondale is aiming to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the firefighters.
This particular rifle worth 14-hundred dollars - the raffle tickets are going for 10 bucks a piece.
Cheryl Todd with A-Z-Firearms said, "It's an exciting item and it's a sought after item, they're good for hunting, they're good for home protection, and they look cool."
The raffle is open to those 18 and over and the winner must meet the same requirements as any gun sale.
The owners say they will make sure the grand prize does not end up in the wrong hands.
"Whoever wins it will go through a background check and well make sure whoever it is is perfectly legal to own it," Todd said.
Aguirre says the community's support will go a long way.
Not just for him and his own family, but for his fellow firefighter.
"Anybody that knows Austin knows that he's a fighter, so he's got this he'll beat it."
