Intruder shot, killed by homeowner during home invasion in Philly neighborhood

A homeowner turned the tables on a would-be robber, fatally shooting him in the middle of the night to protect his home.

What we know:

A husband and wife, both in their 60s, were inside their home on the 1000 block of Cobb Creek Parkway when they noticed someone tampering with their front door.

When the man went to confront the intruder, police say he broke open the front door, forcing his way in.

That's when the homeowner fired one shot at the 64-year-old suspect, who later died at the hospital.

What's next:

Police say both the homeowner and his wife are cooperating with police, and say that they did not know the suspect.

Evidence from the scene, including Ring doorbell video, has been recovered as part of the investigation.
