Jose batters Jersey Shore, leaves significant damage in North Wildwood

While the Caribbean focuses on the effects of Hurricane Maria, the Jersey shore is focused on the impact of Jose.

The storm never made landfall in the U.S., but it battered coastal communities in New Jersey, eroding beaches, and flooding streets.

North Wildwood suffered significant damage to its beaches and dunes.

Wednesday seemed like a perfect beach day for folks in Avalon, but down in North Wildwood the beach was severely damaged by 12-15 foot waves washing away the sand overnight.

North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello says the damage to the dunes, particularly where the sea wall ends is significant.

Now, engineers and contractors are surveying the beat-up section of beach. Bulldozers are moving sand around trying to stabilize the dunes. The mayor, however, says a more permanent fix is needed.
