Kit Kat launching new mint, dark chocolate bar in US, first permanent flavor in nearly 10 years
A new flavor of the iconic Kit Kat bar featuring mint and dark chocolate will be released in December this year, Hershey's announced on Wednesday.
The "Kit Kat Duos Mint + Dark Chocolate" bar is the first new year-round Kit Kat flavor in the U.S. in nearly a decade, according to a press release from the chocolate company.
"KIT KAT is known around the world for its inventive flavors," Christopher Kinnard, Kit Kat's senior brand manager, said in the release. "Our fans in the U.S. have been requesting new KIT KAT flavors and we're excited to share we are adding to the KIT KAT family with the launch of KIT KAT Duos Mint + Dark Chocolate."
The new Kit Kat bar will feature a "mashup of two iconic flavors," the release said.
The chocolate bar will be comprised of "a mint crème on the top and dark chocolate on the bottom, all surrounding light and crispy wafers," the release said.
It's unclear if the chocolate company will release more "Duos" flavor mixes, but Kinnard alluded that that is more to come from the Kit Kit brand.
"But here's the best part - we are just getting started," he said. "Keep your eyes peeled."
Currently, Kit Kat bars in the U.S. come in milk chocolate, white chocolate and dark chocolate, which was the last year-round flavor released.
Kit Kat in the U.S. is owned by Hershey's, while Kit Kat in the rest of the world is owned by Nestle, which has launched myriad different flavors in other countries.
