Local business owner and Norristown PD donate free Christmas trees to families in need
NORRISTOWN (WTXF) - For many, a live Christmas tree is the centerpiece of a joyful, bright, traditional family Christmas.
Nicole Henderson from Norristown said, "The smell the atmosphere -- the uniqueness of it.
And this year -- the holiday staple is free for these families.
ServPro of Norristown and Manayunk along with the Norristown Police Department worked together to find local families and churches who could benefit most from this $3,000 giveaway.
"There are so many people out there that can't buy a tree and it's just a simple thing to go out with your kid and pick a Christmas tree," Brian Turpin, the owner of ServPro, said.
One by one - parents and their children picked out the perfect pine.
ServPro crews fastened more than 100 trees to the roofs of cars, trucks and SUVs.
Lynette Allen from Norristown said, "I guess it's mostly symbolizing everybody getting together and being together as a family again?"
Lynette Allen says her family was nominated for a free tree because her brother is an active member of the National Guard, and this year they're hosting family members from across the country who want to be together this Christmas.
Nicole Henderson says her family was nominated by co-workers -- it's the first year her daughter will experience a real Christmas tree.
"The opportunity to be able to give her something different and to be able to enjoy that type of experience that's priceless to me."
Henderson showed her appreciation to the man behind the gift.
"Thank you really appreciate it."
But perhaps Brian Turpin and the ServPro team received the best gift of all: seeing the smiles and excitement as these families make holiday memories that will last forever.
"It gets me all choked up that's pretty amazing stuff."
