Man, 83, struck by car in West Oak Lane, driver flees scene on foot

An 83-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after he was struck by a car in a hit-and-run in West Oak Lane.

The incident occurred on Andrews Avenue near Ogontz Avenue around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police say the SUV jumped the curb, obliterating trash containers, barreling up one yard, mowing down metal railings, and 83-year-old Joseph Williams who was sweeping up leaves. His wife watched in horror.

The Chevy Trailblazer crossed two more yards before slamming into a fence. The driver took off running, according to police.

The victim is said to be in stable condition. Police are asking for more witnesses to come forward with information.
