Man arrested, another sought in June assault in South Philadelphia

A man is in custody after surveillance video and numerous tips helped Philadelphia Police identify him and another suspect in a South Philadelphia assault that happened back in June.

24-year-old Alberto Lopez turned himself into police on September 14 and a warrant has been issued for Luis Nieves.

On June 11 at 4:15 a.m. five unknown males were captured on surveillance video outside 1219 South 9 th Street assaulting three victims.

According to police, after the assault the suspects fled in two vehicles - a dark-colored pickup truck and a SUV - and fled in an unknown direction.

Both vehicles had New Jersey license plates.

The first victim was struck in the face and body causing a cut to his face, the second victim was struck in the face and body causing a cut to his face and a bloody nose, and the third victim was punched in the face, but no injuries were reported by this victim.

Lopez has been charged with aggravated assault and related offenses.

Philadelphia police thanked the media and public for their assistance.
