Man charged after body found wrapped in blood-soaked carpet in Wissinoming

PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Police have charged a man with murder after a body was found wrapped in a blood-soaked carpet in Wissinoming this weekend.

Joseph Wilson, 34, has been charged with murder and related offenses.

Three people were initially taken into custody, but Wilson has been the only person charged thus far.

Police found the body around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. They had responded to the home after receiving a call about suspicious activity at the site.

Witnesses say several people lived at the home on the 4000 block of Higbee Street. When the landlord showed up for the rent Saturday, he knew something wasn't right, according to Marisel Figueroa.

"I guess the landlord kind of peeked in the house. When he peeked in the house, he saw there was a piece of carpet missing. So, he asked, 'What's going on with the piece of carpet?'" Figueroa said.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later.

"They start asking questions and people are kinda like a little nervous. The cops tell them to stay outside. They go in the house, and as soon as they come out, they're like, 'Get on the floor! Get on the floor'" Figueroa added.

Police say they found a blood-soaked carpet with a man wrapped inside in the basement.

Wilson, another man and one woman were found in the house when police arrived.
