Man charged in deadly Deptford Township road rage to remain in jail

DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) -- A man charged with murder in what authorities say was a deadly road rage incident that occurred during a nor'easter will remain jailed until his trial.

Everett Moore Jr.'s lawyer sought to have him released Friday with electronic monitoring, calling the state's case "inadequate." But Gloucester County prosecutors cited the seriousness of the charges the 54-year-old of Clayton man faces, along with evidence obtained in the investigation.

Moore was charged last month with murder and two weapons offenses in the March 7 slaying of Joseph Pirri. Moore allegedly slashed the 32-year-old Blackwood man during a confrontation in Deptford Township, and Pirri died a week later from his injuries.

Prosecutors say Pirri provided police with details about his assailant and the pickup truck the man was driving. That information, along with video surveillance camera footage, led to Moore's arrest.
