Man dies after falling 45 feet at clean-up event in Penn Valley

A man working a fall clean-up event in Penn Valley fell to his death Saturday afternoon, police say.

The incident occurred at the Koegel Public Works Complex at 1300 N. Woodbine Avenue at 12:54 p.m.

Police say a 68-year-old Lower Merion resident was working alongside the Lower Merion Refuse Department, accepting household trash and recycling as part of a Fall Clean-up Event.

The man fell into the refuse pit at the location while unloading trash from a U-Haul truck. The fall was approximately 45 feet.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and were able to remove the victim. He was taken to Lankenau Hospital Trauma Center for medical care, but succumbed to his injures at 2:30 p.m.

Immediate family was notified.

The Fall Clean-up Event was cancelled for the rest of the day Saturday after the accident and will reopen Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
