Man fatally stabbed on Center City SEPTA platform, suspect in custody
CENTER CITY (FOX 29) - A man has died after authorities say he was stabbed on a SEPTA platform in Center City early Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the Walnut-Locust Station near Broad and Spruce Streets.
Investigators tell FOX 29's Steve Keeley the man was standing on the subway platform when he was stabbed during a physical altercation with another man.
After the stabbing, the 33-year-old victim was able to get to the street level before he was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital in serious condition, but was later pronounced dead.
Police say the suspect also ran off after the stabbing but was been taken into custody by SEPTA police at the Hub of Hope center where he was seeking treatment.
Wednesday night, Nearly 200 SEPTA transit police officers went on strike several days of contract negotiations failed.
SEPTA police supervisors remain on duty and responded to Thursday morning's incident. Philadelphia police are handling the investigation.
