Man pleads guilty to attempted murder in Atlantic City stabbing

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (WTXF) - A Pennsylvania man accused of stabbing a woman more than a dozen times inside an Atlantic City parking garage has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in the 2017 incident.

David Legette, 54, from Bristol Township Pleaded guilty on Tuesday to attempted murder.

Police say Legette met up with a Pennsylvania woman on July 2, 2017 who had an active restraining order against him due to a previous romantic relationship. Around 10 p.m. that night, Legette and the victim were reportedly in the Caesar's parking garage when he pulled out a knife and stabbed her 19 times.

Police say the victim could not escape because Legette had child locked his doors. As Legette was driving down the Atlantic Avenue in Ventnor, the victim reportedly was able to reach out of the window and open the car door from the outside.

Investigators say a witness saw her throw herself out the driver side rear door and into the middle of Atlantic avenue. The victim received multiple injuries including numerous stab wounds.

Police say Legette then sped away in his car and the witness called 911.

On July 20, 2017 Legette was located in Bristol and arrested. Investigators impounded his vehicle and the victim's DNA was found inside.

Legette will be sentenced on July 20,2018, exactly one year after his arrest. Officials say he will be sentenced to 16 years in New Jersey state prison and upon release will be subject to five years of parole.
