Man, woman indicted for 2-year-old Arlington girl's murder

Two people who were caring for a little girl in Arlington were indicted this week for her murder.

The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office confirmed 34-year-old Shamonica Jackson and 38-year-old Derick Roberson are facing one count each of capital murder.

Police believe they killed 2-year-old Aniyah Darnell, who died in November from beatings and dehydration.

The toddler was not related to either of the suspects but Jackson, who also went by the name Shamonica Page, was caring for her as a favor to her biological mother.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Jackson admitted hitting the little girl multiple times with a belt as punishment because she was frustrated with her potty training accidents.

Medical examiners also found evidence of severe burns on Aniyah's body. Jackson admitted to hitting her burns and not seeking medical help, the affidavit states.

Police said Roberson was there when it was all happening and didn't do anything to stop it.
