Mother charged with murder of missing toddler after remains found in yard

Authorities have charged a mother with the murder of her toddler son after his remains were discovered in the yard of their home in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

Nakira Griner, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree desecration of human remains and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.

Bridgeton police were called shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday after 23-month-old Daniel Griner Jr. was reported abducted.

A child abduction response team initiated a search in coordination with city and state police, prosecutors and bloodhounds from New Jersey park police.

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, the boy's remains were discovered in the family's yard on Woodland Drive.

Griner is currently being held at Cumberland County jail awaiting a detention hearing.

A detention hearing for Griner is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m.
