New Jersey state trooper uses CPR to revive 70-year-old woman on Garden State Parkway

A New Jersey state trooper came to the rescue when a 70-year-old woman stopped breathing on the Garden State Parkway Thursday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., Trooper Didier Paul responded to a report of an accident southbound on the Parkway. Upon his arrival, he discovered that the driver of a Chrysler van pulled over to the right shoulder. He removed the victim, Joan Murphy of North Wildwood, New Jersey, from the vehicle when she said she was feeling ill. When Trooper Paul attempted to have Murphy sit in the front passenger seat, he realized that she was not breathing.

Trooper Paul was able to administer CPR and revive Murphy. She quickly regained consciousness and began to breathe on her own after several chest compressions were administered.

Middle Township EMS provided additional treatment at the scene before transporting Murphy to Cape May Regional Hospital where she was last listed as in stable condition.
