NJ Patrol car hit by gunfire, but officer not injured

MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP/WTXF) - Authorities say a New Jersey police patrol car was hit by gunfire, but the officer inside wasn't hit and police say it doesn't appear that the car was targeted.

Millville police said shots were fired at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday on the 300 block of East Vine Street. One shot broke the passenger's side front window, then the driver's side front window. The officer wasn't hit but was taken to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland for evaluation and released.

Police said about a dozen shell casings were recovered. Police said it doesn't appear that the shooting was directed at the patrol car.

About an hour later, police responded to another report of shots fired on the same street found three more shell casings in the road. It isn't clear whether the two incidents were connected.
