Ocean County woman jailed for animal cruelty

An Ocean County woman was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail after she plead guilty to animal abuse charges last December.

Allison Konowitz, 36, was found responsible for leaving 16 dogs in deplorable living conditions at a residence in Ocean County.

Police say they initially found one dog who was malnourished and wounded. Officers then discovered a nearby home with the door open and dogs coming and going freely.

The Health Department assessed the home and deemed it unhabitable.

One of the 16 dogs had to be euthinized due to its condition. The remaining 15 were transported to a local shelter and have since been adopted.

In addition to her jail sentence, Konowitz will subsequently serve two years probation and has been fined $1,225.
