Officials: 4 residents unaccounted for after West Chester senior home fire

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP/WTXF) - Officials say four residents are still unaccounted for after last week's fire at a senior living community.

The 5-alarm fire broke before 11 p.m. Thursday at the Barclay Friends Senior Living Community in West Chester.

The blaze injured more than two dozen people and displaced more than 100 residents. Still missing are a husband, age 92, and his 89-year-old wife, an 85-year-old woman and a 93-year-old woman.

The fire started in the south wing, but the cause is still unknown.

A team of National Fire Specialists with the ATF will work through the holiday. On Monday, they were finally able to get into what's left of the building. Winds over the weekend were too strong to run the crane needed to clear away debris to give crews a safe entryway.

"We are not expecting good news," Chester County DA said in a Monday press conference.

Many neighbors helped with the rescue effort, wrapping the elderly in blankets and carrying them to ambulances in makeshift gurneys. Volunteers collected clothing and supplies for the residents over the weekend.
