Officials: Death of 7-year-old boy in Newark considered 'suspicious'

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - The death of a 7-year-old boy in Newark, New Jersey, is being investigated as suspicious.

The boy was found unresponsive when Newark police responded to reports of a sick or injured person at a Weequahic Avenue home around 8 a.m. Monday. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

The child's name and further details about his death have not been released. It wasn't immediately clear if the child lived in the home.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
