Parking Authority to Waive Papal Visit Fee for Residential Permit Holders

PHILADELPHIA-(WTXF)-The Philadelphia Parking Authority announced on Friday that they will pre-sell spaces in designated garages to residents of areas in which parking is prohibited during the Papal visit at the end of September.

According to the PPA, vehicles may enter the garage beginning at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24th. Vehicle that enter the garage will not be permitted to leave until Monday, September 28. The cost is $20.00 for the entire period and must be purchased in advance. If the vehicle has a current, valid Residential Parking Permit, the $20.00 fee will be waived.

Residents who purchase a parking space in one of the garages will be issued a placard which will exempt the vehicle from towing until 10:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24th, with the understanding that it will be removed from the street prior to that time. The garages will begin accepting vehicles who have pre-purchased a space beginning at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24th.

Please provide the vehicle license plate number and a proof of residence when applying for the permit. A driver's license, vehicle registration, utility bill or some other document showing the vehicle owner's name and address within the tow area will be accepted as a proof of residence. Each vehicle will be assigned a specific garage in which to park.

Vehicles which are not moved from the street by 10:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24th, will be towed and subject to a $76.00 fine, a $175.00 tow fee and storage charges.

Garage spaces must be purchased in advance. A limited number of spaces are available. Permits will only be sold until the supply is exhausted. This program is only for residents of temporary no parking areas associated with the Papal visit.
