#PhillyHomelessCards: Cards show the homeless they're cared for during the holidays

You probably feel there is nothing you could do that would make a difference in the life of a homeless person in our city, but you're wrong.

When you send your holiday cards this season, consider sending an extra one to someone you likely never meet.

In Philadelphia, there are approximately 6,000 people who are homeless and will have nowhere to go for the holiday. More than 100 of those people will be sleeping and eating their meals at the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission at 13th and Vine.

In order to make some of those people feel special during the holiday season, a campaign has been launched to help bring smiles to the faces of those in need.

Holiday Cards for the Homeless encourages strangers to write letters to the homeless to show them that they are loved and cared for during the time of the year where most people focus on spending time with loved ones.

Those who write cards are asked to address the card 'Dear Friend' and use the words 'love' and 'care' to let those receiving the cards know that someone is thinking about them this Christmas.

To send a card to one of Philadelphia's homeless this year, you can send it to the address below through December 15th. If you are writing a card, you are also encouraged to donate $2 to help fund a meal for someone at the rescue mission.
