Police investigate Franklin Township home invasion
FRANKLIN TWP. N.J. (FOX 29) - Police say they are searching for three men and a woman in connection with a home invasion in Franklin Township, New Jersey.
"He robbing me and take my money. Lucky, he no hurt me." The man has lived in the same home on New York Avenue in Franklin Township for almost 14 years. He hadn't had any problems until late Sunday night.
"I was sleeping and somebody knocked at my door," he said.
We're not identifying him because of what happened. It was around 9:40 p.m. Sunday when he heard footsteps coming up the ramp to his front door.
"They're like stomp, stomp, stomp," he described the sound. The victim says they tried his front door then came around to the back door. He opened it and says a woman asked to use his phone.
Then, out of nowhere, "I said, 'I don't got no phone.' The guy in the corner he grabbed me."
He says three men in masks appeared from the side of the door and forced their way in along with the woman.
"They have a knife. He put a knife to me and he says if you don't give the money," he said.
He says the suspects threatened to stab him so he gave them what money he had. They also took his cellphone and ran off. The victim went to a neighbor's house to call 911. Franklin Township police say they're not sure whether the home invasion was random or the victim was targeted.
"We don't know what the case is. That's a tight-knit community back there. Pretty much everyone knows each other and its kind of surprising that something like this happened," said Lt. Matthew Decesari.
Several days after the robbery the victim says he no longer feels safe in the home where he lived with his wife until she died 6 months ago.
"I didn't sleep in like two or three days. I can't eat," he said.
