Police: Man charged with violent slashing incident outside Center City hotel

Police have identified the man they say is responsible for a violent slashing incident in Center City Monday evening.

Thadeous Muldrow, 40, has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a straight edge razor.

Police say just Muldrow approached the hotel guest, who was grabbing a smoke outside the Marriott Residence Inn, around 10:30 p.m. The suspect reportedly asked for a cigarette and some cash. When the hotel guest refused, an argument ensued.

"Somehow during the exchange the merits of us being the 'City of Brotherly Love' came about," Philadelphia Police Captain Sekou Kinebrew said.

After the two exchanged words, the guest reportedly told the suspect to take a hike. Police say the suspect then struck back.

"The homeless individual pulled out what we believe to be a boxer cutter, a silver box cutter and slashed the victim in th face--requiring stitches," Captain Kinebrew said.

Police stepped up patrols around City Hall Tuesday. They say the suspect is known to frequent the area and is known by police. The victim was raced to Hahnemann Hospital in stable condition. He received more than 45 stitches to his face.

The slashing victim, who is from Montana, told FOX 29 he will likely return home, ending his stay in Philadelphia for now. His injuries may require plastic surgery in the future.
