Police: Mother, two children struck in South Philadelphia hit-and-run

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Philadelphia Police are investigating a hit-and-run in South Philadelphia.

The incident occurred on Broad and Dickinson streets at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday.

According to officials, a mother and two children were struck by an older model red Honda Accord while crossing the street.

Paul Moore and others raced to help the mother and free the infant from her baby harness.

"I unleashed the harness; the snaps, Let's get it out. Stand back pulled the baby out real careful, She's still holding the baby and I said, 'It's gonna be alright.'"

Moore says he tried to keep the mother calm as police and paramedics arrived.

Ashley Saito works at this restaurant on the corner, she went rushing out to see what had happened after the Honda took off down Dickinson.

The mother was transported to Hahnemann Hospital where she's being treated for head injuries and is in critical but stable condition. The children are being treated at St Christopher's Hospital. Police say a 5-year-old is being treated for a broken leg/femur while the infant is being treated for scrapes to the head.

The striking vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on Dickinson from Broad.Witnesses stated that the car is now possibly missing its side mirror. Police say the car was being driven by a female.
