Police: Person changing tire struck, killed on NJ Turnpike

KEARNY, N.J. (AP) - Police in New Jersey say a person who stopped to change a tire on the New Jersey Turnpike was struck and killed by a passing truck.

Officials say the unidentified person was on the shoulder of the NJ Turnpike in Kearny Tuesday afternoon when they were struck by a passing box truck. The crash sent the person's vehicle careening and the box truck ran off the road.

State police questioned the driver of the truck who remained at the scene after the crash. The victim's identity has not yet been released.

Police are investigating. The crash caused major delays on the Turnpike, and authorities were expected to remain on the scene Tuesday evening.
