Police release more information about teen found dead inside Wynnefield school

Police in Wynnefield Heights are investigating the sudden death of a teenager student, after he was found dead inside a school.

According to a press release, on Thursday at 9:01 p.m., officers responded to a call for a hospital case at Wordsworth Academy. When they arrived they found a 17-year-old male victim, lying unresponsive on the floor.

Medics arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead a 9:36 p.m.

The press release states that preliminary information has revealed that staff members at Wordsworth Academy were conducting an investigation which led to a search of the victim's room.

When staff left the room, they heard banging as the male was barricading the door.

Staff told him to stop several times, however he continued. Staff entered the room to find the male standing on the bed frame with the room in complete disarray with broken fixtures and furniture.

They told him to calm down, but he began yelling and striking them.

While they attempted to gain control of the male, he lost consciousness.

Staff tried to revive him by performing CPR and notified the staff doctor and Philadelphia Emergency Medical Services.

They continued administering aid until medics took over, and they were unable to resuscitate him.
