Police will charge Delaware teen as suspect in grandfather's murder

NEW CASTLE, DE (WTXF) - Police in New Castle County say a teen will be charged for the death of this 69-year old grandfather.

The New Castle County Police have learned the identity of the man found deceased inside of his home in the unit block of Indiana Road (Park Place Trailer Park) as 69-year-old James Steppi.

The investigation revealed the victim's daughter responded to the residence and found her father deceased.

Police say the victim's grandson, Shawn Hagerty, 19, was the last person seen leaving the home in the victim's 2003 Oldsmobile Alero.

Officers located the vehicle in the area of the unit block of Vansant Road where a pursuit ensued. Hagerty was taken into custody in the unit block of Blue Hen Court in Landenberg, PA. He was transported to the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop J-Avondale Barracks.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Shawn Hagerty for murder in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, (two counts) possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He is currently awaiting extradition on all charges.
