READ: A boy with autism's incredibly honest poem is going viral

The National Autism Association (NAA) shared a 10-year-old boy's honest and heartfelt take on a classroom poetry assignment.

Benjamin's mother explained that the teacher asked the students to write a poem, entitled "I Am."

"My 10 year old son with Aspergers was asked to write a poem for school titled 'I Am' he was given the first 2 words in every sentence. This is what he wrote..." she said.

Benjamin's poem (above) read in part:

"I am odd, I am new

I understand now that so are you

I say I 'feel like a castaway'

I dream of a day that that's okay." ‪
