Shapiro presses lawmakers on abuse lawsuits bill after Grand Jury Report
NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WTXF) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro and other lawmakers are pushing for change after the Grand Jury Report on the alleged child sex abuse within Pennsylvania Catholic Dioceses.
They want lawmakers to approve a number of reforms such as creating a two-year window for now-adult victims of child sex abuse to be able to file lawsuits after the statute of the limitations runs out.
Shapiro discussed the reforms on Tuesday in Norristown with advocates and victims.
"It feels like the first time, in the past 2 years, that we as survivors have been heard," said one of the victims.
"You can either trust what 23 grand jurors put forth in this report, or you can trust what the lobbyists who walk around the capitol in Harrisburg and lobby on behalf of the catholic conference and insurance companies want to tell you," said Shapiro.
Regarding the two-year window reform Catholic dioceses and some senators say that two year window would be unconstitutional.
