Sheriff: South Florida man killed girlfriend's puppy because she wouldn't answer his calls

A South Florida man is accused of killing his girlfriend's puppy out of jealousy because she wouldn't answer his calls or texts.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said 19-year-old Lawrence Graham killed his 16-year-old girlfriend's 1-year-old Shih Tzu when she didn't come home by a certain time.

Graham told detectives he was angry and jealous that his girlfriend wouldn't answer his phone calls or text messages Tuesday night.

He went to her house Wednesday morning, and told investigators he was mad she wasn't there and jealous that she might be with someone else.

That's when the sheriff's office said Graham took out his anger on his girlfriend's dog named Jordan.

An arrest report said Graham texted his girlfriend, saying, "U got til 1030 if u not here by then I swear 4 God I'll finnish Jordan off."

Investigators said Graham kicked, choked and slammed the dog on the ground, then put the injured puppy in a plastic bag.

When the dog scratched holes in the bag, Graham again choked the puppy and killed it.

"He then placed the dog next to the front door with a towel over it, flowers next to the dog, with the dog's collar, and a note that read, 'Coulda made it RIP Jordan,'" the report stated.

Detectives said Graham then texted his girlfriend several messages to tell her he killed her dog.

"If u really loved him u woulda made it in time 2 save him," Graham wrote. "Hope it was worth it."

"This is a heinous crime that he did this to this poor dog that's a year old," BSO Detective Sira Arroyo told WSVN. "Also, I mean, it's a small puppy he eventually ended up killing. Thank God she didn't come home because who knows what he would've done to her."

Graham has been charged with six counts of animal cruelty. He is being held in the Broward County Jail on $15,000 bond.
