Student banned from prom for wearing suit instead of dress
HARRISBURG, PA (WTXF) - Imagine getting all ready for prom and then being told that you're not welcome to attend. That's exactly what happened to a Central Pennsylvania teen.
Aniya Wolf, a student at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, was ready for prom, but then it all turned bad based on what she decided to wear.
Wolf says she was not admitted into the prom. She was asked to leave. Why? It wasn't because of a revealing dress, or a high hemline. The reason for being denied at the door was because she wore a tuxedo instead of a dress.
She says administrators told her that her attire violated the prom dress code.
Her family says they received a last-minute email saying all girls had to wear dresses. Aniya is confused saying she wore pants the last three years at the school's prom.
"I told them that I had read the dress code that was given to the students and I didn't think that it precluded her from wearing a suit," Carolyn Wolf said.
"You know, a lot of girls' dresses, I mean I'm not saying that all of them are this way, but they do show a lot of skin, she said. I think I'm dressed pretty modestly."
The high school released a statement on Facebook.
In it, school administrators say the full dress code policy was sent to parents three months ago and they promised that students who did not follow the dress code would not be allowed in.
