Truck, car fires had miles-long southbound Blue Route delays

Traffic is flowing again after a tractor-trailer on fire on the Blue Route (I-476) southbound approaching the Broomall exit (Route 3, West Chester Pike).

The highway had been completely shut down and then a car waiting in that delay also caught fire.

There was a ten-mile delay, from Broomall all the way up to the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

First, Fox 29's Bob Kelly reports the truck's crane caught fire. The driver pulled over and the truck became engulfed.

Crews used foam and water to put it out but the water froze on the highway, so salt crews have to melt the ice.

Separately, a car waiting in the delay also caught fire. That was near the St. Davids/Villanova exit. Firefighters had trouble getting there because of the bumper-to-bumper traffic.

There is no word on any injuries.

Bob Kelly suggested using local roads through the townships, like Routes 252 and 320.
