Two women shot, killed inside truck in Fairhill

Two women have died after Philadelphia Police found them shot to death inside of a pickup truck in the City's Fairhill neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the 300 block of North Lawrence Street for multiple reports of gunshots around 12:10 a.m.

When police arrived on scene, they found two women in the front seats of a Toyota pickup truck, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Family members have identified the victims as Lilliana Mendoza, 35, and Aslemarie Torres, 19. They were mother and step-daughter, according to family.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says both women were shot several times in the head, neck, and torso. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators tell FOX 29 the gunmen fired multiple shots into the passenger side front door of the truck, and shell casings were found near that door.

Several witnesses were questioned by detectives as police search for more witnesses and surveillance video from nearby cameras.

The truck was still running when the victims were found.

Police say only 10 percent of murder victims in Philadelphia are women, and this case makes for three in the past 24 hours.
