Vigil held for victims of violence in Delaware County

Media, Pa. (WTXF) A heartbreaking vigil for families who have lost loved ones to violence in Delaware County. Candlelight and dozens of grieving families. A quilt with pictures of lives gone too soon hung in the Delaware County Courtroom. Each family is missing someone special. They were presented a rose after the reading of a special message about a life taken.

"This is another step closer to justice for Mason. We have to remember Mason and we have to remember other children," said Carol Patterson. She's the aunt of a beautiful bright-eyed two year old boy killed February of last year. His mother and her boyfriend are standing trial in his murder. The family attended the vigil last year too.
"It is hard to be here but at the same time it's comforting. We know we're not alone. We know there is support out there," said Carrie Kelly another one of Mason's aunts.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan spoke and pledged support for grieving families.

"I come here to honor your loved ones. I come here to honor and respect each of the family members here today and the devastation you have to endure," he said.

Families say the vigil won't end their pain but say it's a comfort knowing people remember and honor their loss.

"It's not going to heal us. My brother is going to be a broken man till the day he dies. Justin is going to feel that hurt till the day he dies because his brother is not here and he misses his brother terribly," said Patterson.

The vigil is organized by the Delaware County Chapter of Mothers of Murdered Children. This is the 21st year it's been held.
