Her boyfriend, fellow newly appointed Deputy Sheriff Andrew McCorkle, who graduated a month earlier, proposed to his girlfriend right after the ceremony.

On February 19th, 2016, Sheriff Jim McDonnell officiated the graduation ceremony for academy class 410. Soon after the graduation, we captured a very special moment -- a wedding proposal between two newly appointed Deputy Sheriffs. Watch this special moment and share in the joy of new careers, and new lives coming together, within the #LASD Family.

Andrew's dad, who is a commander in the sheriff's department, was thrilled to continue the tradition of family members working in law enforcement.

"[It's] just a beautiful day," he said a video posted by the department on Facebook. "We're truly a family and today is a perfect example of why we're a family. So, I could not be more proud and happy."

The couple, who've been together three years, believe working in the same field will help their marriage.

"I graduated today and I got proposed to and I had no idea," Cowell said the video.
