Wildwood police arrest a man seen brandishing a handgun
WILDWOOD, N.J. (WTXF) - Police have arrested two men after one of them brandished a handgun in Wildwood, NJ.
The incident happened on Friday when police responded to the area of Scellenger and Ocean Avenues. Upon arrival, investigators learned that the suspect with the handgun was driving a blue Chevy Blazer and was traveling in the 200 East Block of Schellenger Avenue when the hand gun was displayed.
Shortly after, police located a vehicle matching the reported description and a pulled the car over.
According to officials the individual was identified as 33-year-old Carl Smith who is a self-employed construction worker.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Smith was engaged in a substance transaction with another individual who police have identified as 34-year-old William Atkinson. It was during their transaction when Smith brandished the handgun.
Police then physically search of the vehicle and found a black colored Airsoft/Pellet handgun.
Smith was charged with possession of a weapon (imitation firearm), unlawful possession of a weapon, among other related charges.
Atkinson was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana among other related charges.
Smith was taken to Cape May County Correctional Center and Atkinson was issued his criminal charges and released on a summons complaint.
