Woman adopts puppy she found on the side of the road, names him 'Larry'

CRANDON, WI. (FOX 9) - A puppy found abandoned on the side of a northern Wisconsin road has love pouring in for him from all over the world.

Tegan Griffith says she was just driving to work this week when something just didn't seem right.

"I was sipping my coffee, going about my morning commute, listening to some radio and I saw something moving in the ditch," Griffith said.

That something was a long-legged, floppy-eared puppy that had nothing in its belly.

"Just set him on passenger seat. I turned on the heated seats because I don't know what to do with puppies but I figured you've been outside overnight, you're probably cold. So, he just sat on my coat and ate the cheese snacks over there on the passenger seat," Griffith said.

Griffith was on her way to work, so she tucked him in and snuck him in her office building without anybody knowing. Eventually, she went home with him.

That's when she contacted the Forest County Humane Society to find out her puppy was actually number four among its siblings. Someone had already turned in his three sisters.

"Yes, we are going to adopt Larry," Griffith said of the dog she found. And yes, his name is Larry.

"I thought that Larry was a little girl puppy until my fiance pointed out that it was not," Griffith added.

Larry now has a fan club. Owners of rescued pets all over the country have been tweeting Griffith pictures of their own adopted loved ones.

"And for me, as a veteran, I'm relating to a lot of people who were saying I was really in a hard place today until I found Larry's story," she said. "So, veteran or not, wherever you are in the world that this little floppy-eared puppy has made a positive impact on people that just makes me happy. That's all I was trying to do share. This is a good thing, you know."

In the past 24 hours, the Forest County Humane Society has taken in $10,000 in donations from as far away as California and Canada.
