Why 'Batman & Robin' is George Clooney's most important movie
LOS ANGELES - Holy career awakening, Batman!
George Clooney starred as Batman in the 1997 installment of the franchise led by Joel Schumacher. Clooney's debut would be Schumacher's final Batman movie and for a good reason. Batman & Robin was ripped to shreds by critics. The Wall Street Journal's Joe Morgenstern said, "Of all modern Batmans, George Clooney bears the closest physical resemblance to the comic-book hero, but there isn't much to say about his performance because there isn't much performance to discuss." Not all was lost though! George Clooney revealed the movie served as a wake-up call for him.
"Up until that moment, I was an actor only concerned with finding work. After the failure of that film creatively, I understood that I needed to take control of the films I made, not just the role. My next three films were Out of Sight, Three Kings and O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
