1 dead, 1 injured after NJ Transit train strikes car in Hammonton

Police say a person has died and another person was airlifted to the hospital after a NJ Transit train struck a car.

It happened around 4 p.m. Friday as the Atlantic City Rail Line train 4631, traveling toward Atlantic City, struck the vehicle on the tracks at the Line Street grade crossing in Hammonton.

According to police, there were no injuries to the approximate 120 customers and crew members on board the train at the time of the incident.

Rail service on the Atlantic City Rail line is suspended between Egg Harbor and Atco due to the incident. Substitute bus service is being provided to accommodate customers. River Line light rail service is crossing-honoring ACRL tickets.

The New Jersey Transit Police Department is at the scene leading the investigation.
