Police have a person of interest being questioned after a deadly hit-and-run crash in Southwest Philadelphia.

The crash, which occurred around 2 a.m. Monday, left one man dead and another critically injured.

A Kia and Ford Mustang traveling in opposite directions collided when the Kia driver tried to make a left onto 63rd Street from Passyunk Avenue. The driver of the Mustang, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed. Family members identified the man as 29-year-old Tyreese 'Reese' Wheeler.

A 26-year-old passenger in the mustang was also critically injured.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off the car in order to pull the men from the wreckage. Streetlights were also knocked out after the Mustang hit three utility poles from the impact of the crash.

The Kia driver fled the scene on foot.

Police say excessive speed may have played a role in the crash.
