1 killed, 6 injured in Newark shootings

Authorities say two apparently unrelated shootings in New Jersey's largest city have left a man dead and six other people wounded.

The shootings in Newark occurred within five minutes of each other on Tuesday afternoon. Motives for both incidents remain under investigations, and no arrests have been made in either case.

The first shooting occurred just before 4 p.m., when police responding to reports of shots fired on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard found a man and two women who had all been wounded.

The man was pronounced dead a short time later, while the women's injuries were not considered life-threatening.

About five minutes later, police found four men wounded during a shooting on South Orange Avenue. But none of their injuries were considered life-threatening.
